it was initiated in 2002, can’t remember when it was paid, but a while ago. i think it was for an overdue library book at seattle public library. the colections agency is called “unique national collections”.

Keep in mind that even if you pay this debt, they are not required to do anything more then show the debt as paid with no balance. But the negative information will still be there.
This debt is 5 years old. At this point it normally isn’t hurting your credit that badly. If you pay this off, and they don’t delete it, it will actually make your credit score worse because it will turn this line item into “recent activity”.
My suggestion would be to call them up and negotiate a settlement. If you pay, they have to agree to delete the item. If they won’t do that…and give that agreement in writing…then don’t pay it. You will actually just make matters worse.

It doesn’t matter if the debt is $ 10, or $ 10,000. A debt is a debt, and you didn’t pay it on time.
