I accidentally used my credit card in an ATM…?
Question by stripes: I accidentally used my credit card in an ATM…?
I used my credit card in an ATM machine by mistake thinking it was my debit card. This transaction was done December of 2008 (according to the Chase representative) and I have never made the same mistake again. I realized today that I was getting a “Finance charge” on my statement and called them to find out what it was and that’s when I found out this horrible mistake. I asked the representative if there was a way I could get this off my credit and he said I would need to pay my card in full..$ 900.00 +. I’m a college student and currently unemployed. There is no way I can pay that amount right now.
Is there any way I can get this “cash advance” off my statement? I’ve only spoken to 1 representative. I was never late on my payments, always paid on time, I NEVER use cash advance, just that ONE mistake. Why is Chase being so harsh? There must be a way to remove this mistake from my statement. A mistake I just now found out about.
Um, I never took 900 dollars out. I said I owe my CREDIT CARD 900. I only took $ 40.00 and it was an honest mistake. I never said I took $ 900 out LEARN TO READ PEOPLE
Ok. Let me clarify. Those 40 bucks DID NOT TURN INTO 900, that’s my current BILL OF MY PERSONAL EXPENSES I OWE CHASE FROM CREDIT CARD. Just IGNORE the 900 dollars, makes it much easier. I only took 40 bucks by mistake, did not turn into 900, those are MY spendings it has NOTHING to do with the 40 dollars!
And the complaint is that I have to pay 2~5 dollars every month just because I took 40 dollars out by mistake once. By this time its MORE than 40 dollars that I have to pay Chase each month when I don’t even use cash advance at all.
that’s my complaint. I can use those 2-5 bucks I’m getting charged for the 40 bucks..duh. ;/

No You borrowed the money and need to pay it off. If you used that card instead of your ATM then what happened to the 900 that was in your account

Nope. The entire obligation has to be fulfilled to start over. I had a loan on my CC at a ridiculously low rate, so i set it aside to never use it for any purchases. (purchases would be a higher rate, and paid last)
Then i accidentally used it for a recurring payment, before i remembere4d to cancel that payment. That $ 50 charge has cost me a lot, in the last 3 years.
You can ask them to reduce the interest rate on that part, or If they wont, threaten to cancel the acct.
dont you need a pin number for an atm transaction? and this happened 12/08. and you just found out about it? if you say so.
how could you have taken 900 from a ATM most ATM only let
you withdraw a maxium of 500 how did you get 900? and you need a PIN code do you have that with the card?
and did you speak to a SUPERVISOR?
and how can you mistake a CREDIT card from a debit
card
Sorry… they won’t take it off until you have the current balance of $ 900 completely paid off and only when the card has had a Zero balance do you get to start over again.
Because they won’t apply a payment towards a specific charge. So you can’t just pay them an extra $ 40 and ask them to apply it to that $ 40 cash advance you took out of the ATM.
That means you can’t make any charges until you have the card completely paid off. Because anytime you use that card…. the whole balance forward process begins again.
If it bothers you that much…. pay off the card. A finance charge on a $ 40 cash advance can’t be that much? It is not a “punishment” but the usual way they assess interest on a cash advance loan. Even if it is only $ 40. They have to apply a different rate for that $ 40 and call it a finance charge.
I’m not sure what your complaint is? Most of your finance charge is for other charges that you incurred over the past 18 months and not from the $ 40 withdrawal. The interest on $ 40 should be less than $ 1 per month.
If you don’t like paying interest on your card, that is just a fact of life about using credit and not paying it off in full each month.
So what is the complaint?
