Bankruptcy done in 1994 is still on credit report and getting me turned down.How do I get rid of it?
I thought there was a statute of limitations of how long bank ruptcy could stay on your record. It is 12 years and every time I apply for something the rejection letter says the reasion for denial is bankruptcy.

maybe talk to a bankruptcy lawyer
write the credit bureaus and ask them to remove it you may have to send them a copy of your bankruptcy paperwork to show when it was discharged
you shoulda thought of that when you didn’t pay your bills in the first place
I am not sure you could have it removed from your record, perhaps talk with a firm that deals in bankruptcy or debt counselling they may be able to answer this for you.
Change Identies!!!
If your credit has been good since the bankruptcy, you shouldn’t be having a problem. It’s usually 7 to 10 years. Get yourself a copy of your credit report and check it for additional problems and accuracy.
I think it is supposed to be on your credit reports for 10 years. If it is still on there you need to contact the credit reporting agencies. I think there are 3 of them and I know Experian is one of them. Maybe you can look it up under credit reporting agencies on a general search in google in order to get their contact information.
Suzie Orman who is a famous financial expert probably has a website. Look her up on google also. I heard about the above on her show which is on TV now and then. She seems to be a pretty smart lady when it comes to things like this.
Good luck!
Hi.
You are not only the one who get answer no asking in the bank for credit.
Often people with good or excellent credit history get refuse to.
I would suggest to you move to another nice country and never be late with a payment.
Everything before you.
Good luck!

From what I know(my uncle is a lawyer) is that the year that you had filed doesn’t mean that it was posted on your credit right away so you would need to find the exact date/year it was finally posted to know if it should be removed. Another issue would be the type of bankruptcy you filed because the statute of limitations is different for all. I hope that helped out if not I’m sorry.
gee , maybe you should’ve paid your bills twelve years ago
I wish you folks would actually know the answer and quit guessing!
Now class, lets all open our books to the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
It says :
==============
§ 605. Requirements relating to information contained in consumer reports [15 U.S.C. § 1681c]
(a) Information excluded from consumer reports. Except as authorized under subsection (b) of this section, no consumer reporting agency may make any consumer report containing any of the following items of information:
(1) Cases under title 11 [United States Code] or under the Bankruptcy Act that, from the date of entry of the order for relief or the date of adjudication, as the case may be, antedate the report by more than 10 years.
=============
Therefore, it can only be posted for 10 years, and must be removed. It has nothing to do with the “statute of limitations”.
Now, what you need to find out is if you were rejected due to information supplied by the credit reporting agency, or did they find this out by going through bankruptcy court records. Those records are considered “public records” and do not go away or get erased.
If it was from the CRA, you should contact the agencies and inform them that they are improperly posting adverse inforamtion about you, in violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act. By doing this, you can hold them liable for any damages, such as the loss of a loan, or higher interest rates you are forced to pay when you do find one.
If you send them a letter, you should see this come off within 30 days. If not, sue them! Contact me if you need help.
I am not a lawyer or credit counsoler, just someone who knows the law and helps to counsel people in dealing with creditors/agencies.
yes it is ten years and i went thru the same thing, but after writing all 3 agencies it was removed.p.s. dont listen to people like balloon knot they are fools
